The ‘Overly Attached Girlfriend’: This meme was based on a YouTube video featuring Laina Morris lip-syncing to Justin Bieber’s song “Boyfriend”. Despite being popular for a while, it quickly became overused and tiresome.Ģ. The ‘Most Interesting Man in the World’: This meme was based on a Dos Equis beer commercial featuring actor Jonathan Goldsmith as the “Most Interesting Man in the World”. So without further ado, here are some of the worst ‘lame memes’ of all time:ġ. These memes are often low-effort, unoriginal, and just plain unfunny. We use memes to express our feelings, make jokes, and even for political satire. The need to explore, experiment, build a life and create - those activities resonate regardless of generation.Memes have become an integral part of our daily lives. “While the settings and themes evolve, at the core this need is still there. “The Sims has always been a game where players can play with life,” Lyndsay Pearson says. But The Sims still managed to secure its place in many gamers’ hearts. The Sims was also very different from many of the most popular games of the time, which were mostly action-based like Diablo II and Counter-Strike. And I think they quickly latched on to the fact that you start to care for those little buddies.” “They added these Sims just to help validate if you succeeded or failed with this architectural tool. “I think one of the things the team realized early on was, you can’t really evaluate how good your space is until you put people in it,” said Mike Duke, a senior producer of The Sims 4 who has worked with the series for over a decade. But the game’s creators learned lessons from SimCity that they applied to their new game. The Sims was then turned into a game focused on domestic life, rather than the architectural simulator of its predecessor. “And while it was certainly against the grain of games at the time, the credit of overcoming those doubts goes to the early dev team and the support from EA to bring it to life.” “They certainly had no way to foresee its success,” Lyndsay Pearson, executive producer and general manager of The Sims, told The Washington Post. And the team, which was looking to create something new, wondered if it would be better to manage only one neighborhood or building at a time, rather than an entire city. SimCity had been released in 1989 and had done quite well, but by 1997, the studio that had launched SimCity, Maxis, had been acquired by EA. She first explained that the inspiration for the game stemmed from creator Will Wright’s fixation with humanity’s obsession with material items and the idea of whether or not money can bring us happiness. Every single version of the game has been a hit, so to dive deeper into the success of this franchise, Elise Favis wrote a piece for The Washington Post examining how the game managed to do it. One fascinating thing about The Sims is how well the game has been able to navigate maintaining relevance for over two decades. Throughout all of this time, 10 spin-off games have been released as well, including MySims, The Sims Medieval, The Sims DJ, and The Sims Bowling. The first iteration of The Sims was released on February 4th, 2000, but since then, there have been 4 full versions of The Sims, including 12 expansion packs for The Sims 4. But you probably already knew all of that, didn’t you?Īnyone reading this article can probably provide a low-down on The Sims much better than I can, but I’ll do my best to give you a little more insight into the background of the game and how it became such a widely embraced cultural phenomenon. Players have almost complete control over their “Sims” lives, including how they dress, where they live, what kind of job they work, whether or not they start a family or date, and much more. But the premise of the game is this: players get to simulate real life and control the lives of ordinary people. If you’ve never played The Sims, well, I’m not really sure what you’re doing looking at this list of memes you won’t understand.

A few month later the full real translation was complete. It seemed that someone leaked a working copy with Google Translations as place holders in the unfinished parts. An official license or a rival group has completed thousands of projects that an ocean of cheers and jeers have not budged.įate/Hollow Ataraxia is no exception to the rule. I have seen dozens of projects that seem like they will never move forward that spring to life when someone else looks like they might beat the original team. It turns out the most common thing that spurns these projects to be finished, in my humble opinion, is wounded pride. Sometimes the people involved will just get a second wind and finish off a project. The problem with that is that while there are 1001 events that can trigger such a renaissance the muse is fickle and such events are extremely rare and unpredictable. The only problem is new people can easily throw off a team dynamic permanently killing the project and often such projects are not quick to take on new people anyway. A new addition to the team can sometimes stir things up. There are usually only three things that revitalize such a project. Indifference is usually the greatest killer of stalled projects as they give permission to whoever is working on the project to finally let it go. Well wishes often start off as encouraging but often become a weight around the teams neck as time goes on. Pleas often just become regarded as passive aggressive threats rather quickly. Threats and insults just usually make the people behind the project wonder why they started such an undertaking for an ungrateful audience. If you have even seen a stalled fan work you will quickly realize that threats, pleas, well wishes, and indifference either do nothing or actually actively block progress. But then Mahou Tsukai no Yoru crashed into the same wall that Fate/Hollow Ataraxia had hit and both of them were in limbo. In the beginning it seemed like Witch on the Holy Night would easily cross the finish line before its predecessor. It quickly became an odd race to see which of the two would come out first. In the mean time on April 12, 2012, 6 years and 5 months later, Mahou Tsukai no Yoru was released. The original game came out on October, 28th 2005. It seemed the closer it was to be done the longer it took between updates. It seemed like Fate/Hollow Ataraxia was in an eternal limbo where is was fairly close to being translated but at the same time became a running joke that it would never be finished in some sort of Zeno’s Paradox. Apple’s Case for External BatteriesĪlthough the new MagSafe Battery Pack is the first wireless battery pack that Apple has released, the company has actually been making iPhone Smart Battery Cases since the iPhone 6s back in 2015. However, connect a 20W+ charger to its Lightning port, and you’ll get full 15W charging speeds with an iPhone 12, or 7.5W speeds with older, non-MagSafe iPhone models. In fact, since the MagSafe Battery Pack only charges at 5W when it’s not connected to external power, it’s not going to be much different from any other battery pack. Not surprisingly, it won’t charge the Apple Watch, but that’s been par for the course with Qi chargers for years - the Apple Watch requires smaller and denser coils than most wireless chargers offer. This means you’ll be able to use it to charge your AirPods or AirPods Pro, as well as older iPhones and even Android devices. Like Apple’s other MagSafe chargers, it’s only the magnetic ring and the iOS integration that’s special here - the MagSafe Battery Pack otherwise works just like any other Qi charger or battery pack. The MagSafe Battery Pack is made from smooth, hard plastic, with some light padding on the business side to help avoid scratching your iPhone in the event that you decide to use it without a case. My pre-ordered MagSafe Battery Pack showed up on my doorstep this morning, and while it’s still too early to say much about how well it’s going to hold up over time, it’s made a solid first impression.įirstly, if you were expecting a silicone or rubbery design similar to Apple’s earlier Smart Battery Cases, you’re not going to find it here. Apple MagSafe Battery Pack First Impressions That will be a huge bonus for those who regularly plug their iPhone in to use with CarPlay, since it means you’ll be able to ensure that your battery pack gets charged on those long road trips. The new MagSafe Battery Pack also finally uncovers the hidden reverse wireless charging feature in the iPhone 12, allowing you to recharge the battery back from your iPhone. It also packs in a few other unique features, such as tight iOS integration that not only shows you the battery’s charge level, but also keeps your iPhone operating more efficiently when it’s running from the battery pack. While this only works if you actually plug it into an external power source - it only charges at 5W when being used as a battery - it does make the $99 asking price more palatable, as it can also double as a standard $39 MagSafe charger at home or in your office. Apple’s new MagSafe Battery Pack has begun arriving in stores this week - and in the hands of iPhone users - offering an efficient new way to get some extra power for your iPhone 12 while you’re on the go.Īs with many of these cool little accessories that Apple makes, the new MagSafe Battery Pack promises to be more than the sum of its parts, and while it doesn’t match the raw power specs of many of the MagSafe-compatible battery packs out there, it offers a few unique features that might just make it worth the slightly higher price of entry.įor one thing, since it’s naturally MagSafe-certified, you’ll get the full 15W charging speeds out of it. Surprisingly, given this situation, a systematic study of the uses of the expression before Smith has yet to be made. Martin, Smith’s use of the phrase pointed to the foundational role played by divine wisdom in Smith’s thought, while for Andy Denis, “the invisible hand concept in Smith was entirely and unambiguously theological.” 5 Jacob Viner contended that Smith’s economic theory becomes unintelligible if “the invisible hand” is evacuated of its theological significance. Pack maintained that the invisible hand was “a rhetorical device which Smith made up, and knew he made up” and certainly “not a theological underpinning for Smith’s social and/or economic theory.” 3 Others have adopted the opposite view. John Kenneth Galbraith declared that we do a grave disservice to Smith if we insist on understanding his invisible hand as a kind of “spiritual force.” 2 Spenser J. Estimates of its significance range from the laudatory-“one of the great ideas of history,” to the dismissive-“an ironic joke.” 1 Commentators are also divided on whether Smith’s “invisible hand” has teleological or providential connotations, or whether it is simply a rhetorical device. In spite of this there is no consensus on what Smith might have intended when he used this expression, or on what role it played in Smith’s thought. Few phrases in the history of ideas have attracted as much attention as Smith’s “invisible hand,” and there is a large body of secondary literature devoted to it. Speed can be a critical component of a workplace drug testing program. How much faster? Looking at the past three years of data, drug test specimens collected at PSCs yield final test results on average about 4 hours faster than specimens collected at sites not owned and operated by Quest Diagnostics. To combat these uncontrolled variables, we recommend using a collection site within our Patient Service Center (PSC) network for faster, more consistent turnaround times. For instance, if the collection takes place at the employer’s location or at a collection site outside of the Quest Diagnostics collection site network, we have little to no control over the transportation logistics of that specimen or the accuracy of the collection time. Once the specimen leaves a collection site, factoring logistics into the turnaround time equation can be complex. As soon as the collection is complete, the specimen and any necessary documentation is packaged and shipped to the laboratory.ĮCCF case study: Paper is the past, step into digital drug testing with eCCF Many collection sites are electronically enabled, allowing them to complete collections using an electronic chain of custody form (eCCF), which saves paper and generates more accurate timestamps. Our collectors are trained to follow standardized processes at every location to help control the integrity of the specimens and the drug test results. Yet when the specimens are not within our direct supervision, obtaining an accurate measurement becomes more challenging.īefore coming to the lab, the first step in the drug test specimen lifecycle – the collection – can significantly influence turnaround times. Calculating turnaround time while specimens are within the walls of our laboratories is relatively simple to determine. That said, providing timely accurate results is always the highest priority for our lab. Testing is performed as soon as the specimen arrives at our laboratory, however, the life of a drug testing specimen is filled with twists and turns. Other times a MRO is not needed and results are reported directly from the laboratory management system to the client. Results Reporting – In some circumstances results, regardless of the final result, are reported to a Medical Review Officer (MRO) who analyze the results before then releasing them directly to the client.– If the initial screening indicates a presumptive positive result, a specimen will undergo further confirmation testing. – If the screening results are negative, no further testing is needed. From there, all specimens go through an initial screening process which varies by specimen type. Testing Process – After entering the laboratory, specimens are accessioned into the laboratory management system. Upon receipt, specimens are removed from their packaging, sorted by specimen type, and moved to the laboratory floor. Once they arrive at the unloading dock, they are considered “received” and enter processing.

At that point, Jesse thought Gus had poisoned Brock - so in Jesse’s eyes, that was another Gus-style transgression. If Todd and Gus ever crossed paths, we didn’t see it, but when he killed Drew Sharp, it was a total Gus move. There was Tomás Cantillo back in season three, who was shot and killed in “Half Measures,” presumably at Gus’s behest. And then in one of the show’s most striking scenes, Todd pulls out a gun and kills a child.īut dirtbike-riding, tarantula-trapping Drew Sharp is not the first kid to be shot on Breaking Bad. Two episodes later, in “Dead Freight,” Todd works seamlessly alongside Jesse and Walt, pulling off the great methylamine heist of ‘12. It was an instance of Mike-style attention to detail (think of Mike cleaning up Jesse’s apartment when Jane died), with the same kind of modest presence that disguises an intense dark side. For a very late addition to the cast, Todd sure has become important.Įarly on, Todd was a mirror for Mike. So for my upcoming vacation I’ll have to debate - if I want to use the Remarkable at all, I’ll have to pack it, or do I just use my current notes as reference and make changes elsewhere? Wipebook + pictures But it doesn’t provide a write interface for anything but their hardware. The Remarkable provides read-only sync, by way of apps, to MacOS, Windows, iOS and probably Android devices. Remarkable -> computer based formatĮmail a page to myself to get it off the tablet, or connect it via usb-C to browse the local file system. Given my usage patterns ( maybe an hour of hard use a day), the battery is good for a week or two. I also may use it as a brainstorming tool, or place to keep thoughts. Usually I keep the Remarkable for personal diagrams: diagramming out how I’m going to implement some feature, and half personal todo list. Because it’s eInk the battery for me (an hour or two a day use, max) lasts a couple weeks. I’ve loaded mine up with custom templates. Sometimes though, simple one pager is all I need. The remarkable can zoom a page to 300% size, but I find I had to almost start it that way first and then pan around a lot, but this takes me out of the flow. The disadvantages is that my diagrams have to about fix on that 8.5x11 sheet of e-paper. I can select and move some aspect of the drawing out of the way, or in a better place as the drawing evolves. With selection comes scaling: that big circle takes up too much space Select and scale down. With selection comes rotation (if I’m running out of space sometimes turning the page to landscape mode gives me just enough space to finish it up).But its a little bit (and just a little bit, in my experience) better that paper in the following ways: To counter the fact that there’s limited to no searching of notes on the Remarkable, I manually keep a separate notebook: “Changelog”, where I keep track of what I’ve done day to day and where past-me organized a thought.įor drawings that fit on about 8.5x11 pieces of paper the Remarkable is a great, lightweight, almost paper like experience. For better or worse this is almost exactly an infinite paper notebook (or, suitcase full of folders of paper notebooks). Turns out I have different tools for different tasks, depending on how much I have to share the diagram or how big the diagram is going to be. Nothing takes me out of flow faster than having to right click control l shift, now which part of the dialog box lets me control line thickness gain, etc. I almost mostly want to optimize for fast diagramming tools that give me relatively good results while in the middle of brainstorming by doing. So, given I might need to either write a quick diagram down to explain something, or to add to source code documentation, or as a guide for myself, how do I do it? What makes it kind of worse is that now a days I’m very cross-platform: while I still enjoy the power duo of OmniOutliner and OmniGraffle, I currently use Windows for work, and most of my after hours experimentation happens either on Windows or Linux. |
